4 Ways To Conduct High-Level Reporting In Hive

Table of Contents

Hive has a range of high-level reporting options that you can use to surface important information about your projects, manage your work efficiently and share information with others. Let’s take a closer look at the 4 high-level reporting options in Hive.

1. Portfolio view

Portfolio View

Portfolio view enables you to see the status of all your projects, so it’s a great way to view all your work in progress in one place. Portfolio view provides a customized overview of your projects, showing you all the details that you’ve chosen to see. So, for example, you might customize the Portfolio view to show details such as project due date, key milestones, overall status, and various custom information elements.

How to get started in Portfolio view

Go to the ‘Apps’ tab on your left-hand navigation bar. This will open a whole range of workspace apps. Scroll to ‘Portfolio view’ and toggle the slider to activate. If you want, you can pin ‘Portfolio view’ to your navigation bar, so you can open it from there.

To create a new Portfolio view from scratch, navigate to the top left, click on the arrow and select ‘Add new portfolio’. Once you’ve opened ‘Add new portfolio’ three drop-down menus will appear. Use these menus to select the projects, project fields and custom fields you want to include in your new Portfolio view.

Once you have selected the projects and details you need, you can name and save the portfolio. Once saved, you can use the portfolio to quickly locate and open specific action cards within your portfolio’s selected projects, which is a real-time-saver when you want to manage and edit actions.

You can also share the portfolio you’ve created with other team members. However, please note that users need to be given permission on the projects and the portfolio to have access. An alternative way of sharing is to export the Portfolio view to PDF or .CSV files.

2. Summary view

The summary view is a customizable way to isolate and view specific information that spans across multiple projects. For example, you might want to focus on social media deliverables, un-started actions, or another aspect of your work. With Summary views, you can easily identify a group of actions and pull them all into one single dashboard. And just like projects, you can pin important Summary view to your left navigation bar for quick access.

How to get started in Summary view

Open Project Navigator and click Summary view to get started. Click on the ‘Create summary view’ button. A new window will open, giving you the option to choose a default project layout for your Summary view, followed by all of the settings and information you can include. Note that you can see Summary views in any of Hive’s 6 project layouts. You can also switch between these layouts at any point, even after the Summary view is created.

Select the projects you’d like to pull information from and which users you want to share the Summary view with from the drop-down menus. Summary views are great because they provide you with a range of options for customization. Work through all the fields and menus, then click on the blue ‘Create Summary view’ button to view your finished product. Note that Summary views automatically update to reflect the most recent information from other projects. They can also be edited at any time.

3. Table view charts

Accessed via Table view, the charts function enables you to create visuals from your selected data. There is the option to create different styles of charts (pie charts, bar charts, etc.), which gives you lots of flexibility. Creating a chart only takes a few clicks, so it’s well worth getting to know this function, especially if you need visuals for reports, presentations, or team updates.

How to get started in Table view charts

Use your navigation bar to select the project that you will use to create your chart. This will be the project with the metrics you want to visualize on your chart. When the project is open, you’ll see the ‘Change Layout’ option at the top right of the screen. Click on ‘Change Layout’, then click ‘Table View’.

Once you’ve opened Table View click on the ‘Create chart’ option. Select the chart type you’d like to create and choose which attributes you would like to display. Once you’ve selected your attributes, the chart will be created.

If you want to save your chart, navigate to the top right and click ‘Save chart’. Note that saving your chart will make it available to other users who have access to the project or Summary view.

4. Project Overview page

Project-Overview

The Project Overview page enables you to jump into a project and see all the data in one glance. You can edit and add project information quickly via the Project Overview page. It’s useful for day-to-day project management and keeping your team updated.

How to use the Project Overview page

Use your navigation bar to select the project you want to view, then click the ‘Overview’ button on the right side of the project toolbar. This will give you an all-in-one overview of the project’s details and recent activity. Each Project Overview page is specific to each project, so note that child projects do not roll up to parent projects. You can customize your Project Overview page view by clicking on ‘Manage widgets’ in the top right of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear, and you can select and deselect the different elements to customize your Project Overview page.
