Why do you need a product roadmap template?
Product roadmap templates are essential tools for any product manager or team involved in the product development process. Why is a product roadmap even necessary in the first place? They provide a clear and organized framework for planning and visualizing the entire product journey, from ideation to launch and beyond. They allow stakeholders to align goals, priorities, and timelines, fostering collaboration and effective communication within the team.
Roadmap templates help in outlining key features, milestones, and deliverables, helping product managers set realistic expectations and allocate resources accordingly.
Overall, product roadmap templates play a crucial role in guiding product development, fostering collaboration, resourcing, and mapping out the path to success. This product roadmap template will serve as a starting point to guide you towards the ideal roadmap for your team.
This template is designed to help you:
- Define your product roadmap and expectations
- Keep teammates informed and aligned on their responsibilities
- Collaborate easily around existing initiatives and projects
- Understand timeline progress from a birds-eye-view
With this template, we’ve opted for Status View to show clearly the progress of each action throughout the roadmap itself. This helps teammates and external stakeholders visualize timelines and expected live-dates with just one glance.
Each individual update, bug, or story is a separate action card, and has both a label and a priority status assigned to it (if it’s relevant enough). The labels can be used to help sort actions in Status View, and are helpful for teams to understand where they might need to step in and help
When individual actions are opened up, you’ll be able to add:
- Action description
- Due date
- Priority level
Subactions can be added directly from the parent action card, and all changes and additions will be kept under that nested task, which makes it easy to refer back to and edit when needed.
Once you kick off a project from this template, you’ll be able to edit all of the tasks, subtasks, due dates, and assignees to fit your specific workflow. If it’s easier, you can just use the template as inspiration or a starting point, and create a separate project based on the part of the template that works for you.
