Podcasts. Whether you are a fan of them or not, there is no denying that they have drastically changed the media landscape over the last several years. While they aren’t to be considered hard news sources, people turn to podcasts in a similar way to how they use TikTok: to learn new hobbies, hacks and tricks, to stay up-to-date on world news, to listen to – and engage in – lively internet debates.
There has been mega controversy over-regulation and how news is presented on podcasts, and many people have been given a platform that they have, in turn, abused. Like every other medium, the podcast world is a strange and beautiful place. But you have to know how to indulge, what to trust, and who to listen to.
While we don’t tend to turn to podcasts for newsworthy discussions necessarily, we are big fans of the space for learning how to navigate personal development. We have even found some gems that have helped us in our own career advancement. Here are a few noteworthy podcasts to tune into if you are interested in increasing your impact on the world around you through your work.
1. The Jasmine Star Show
If you are a photographer in the wedding and special event space, you are probably familiar with the name Jasmine Star. Her online videos and masterclasses have been serving the space since far before Masterclass.com was even a thing, helping creatives to build the business of their dreams and photographers to learn the shooting and editing styles that could build them a solid foundation for clients. Now, The Jasmine Star Show discusses turning passion into profit, gleaning insight to a whole new audience about the nuances of business ownership.
Jasmine’s episodes span in length from 19 minutes to 54 minutes, and everywhere in between. Some of the most fulfilling episodes so far have included “How To Get Paid To Talk About Brands You Love: Affiliate Marketing 101,” “3 Tools You Need To Up-Level Your Productivity + Success With Julie Solomon,” “Ed Mylett Explains How To Transform Your Mindset,” and “Mastering SEO To Get More Website Traffic With Anna Baun.”
2. The Mindset Mentor with Rob Dial
The title says it all… The Mindset Mentor helps you to feel in control of your mindset and potential. Rob Dial uses his unique perspective as an entrepreneur to coach his clients and audience through their career setbacks and pivots. While much of his content is created with entrepreneurs and freelancers in mind, many of his podcasts actually help to improve your mindset in other realms of you life as well. For example, his episode “Living In The Future” has a few nuggets of wisdom that can apply to both your career trajectory as well as finding balance and harmony in your home and social lives.
Each episode is around 20 minutes, which hits the sweet spot when you’re running short on time. It also makes each topic easily digestible and quick to learn about, which is great when you’re leaning into efficiency. If you decide to dive in, we suggest starting with “5 Keys to Stop Procrastinating,” “I Want You To Do This EVERY Morning,” “How To Work Through Anxiety,” or “Be Intentional With Your Life.”
3. A Mindful Life with Rowena Tsai
Rowena Tsai has made a career out of being a professional cheerleader. Having gained popularity on Youtube in 2016, she is now the host and co-producer of the Beauty Within and Voice Hugs podcasts, as well as one of our favorites titled A Mindful Life with Rowena Tsai. She focuses on helping to lift others up, and this particular podcast draws on her experience in her own personal development and mindset journey.
Most of the A Mindful Life with Rowena Tsai episodes fall under 20 minutes and help give space to your own personal development within your day. Favorite episodes? Try out “reset your productivity with me | how to un-potato your life, quarter-year check-in,” “how I plan & organize my life: best productivity apps of 2021 for personal use, work, and learning,” or “why everything I knew about productivity is wrong… & what’s the way forward.”
4. Girl CEO Podcast
CEO of Girl CEO Inc & Herlistic and branding expert Ronne Brown is known for helping brands develop their voices and build community. Her best-selling book “From Mopping Floors to Making Millions on Instagram” is an inspiring read, and her podcast – the Girl CEO Podcast – is even more insightful. (If that could even be possible.)
Some of our favorite episodes that have given us tips on setting ourselves up for success? “Hold Yourself Accountable and Start Taking Action!” “How Millionaires Think,” “The Secret To Staying Driven in Business When Life Happens With Claire Summers & Ronne Brown,” and “Discipline Breeds Success!”
5. Creative Elements
For over 120 episodes, Jay Clouse has been steering the Creative Elements podcast to help inspire motivators and leaders everywhere. With the mission to go “behind the scenes with today’s top creators,” Jay has not only helped to find vulnerability and enthusiasm in the space, but the podcast itself has helped him to build his career as an entrepreneur through affiliate and digital product sales, royalties, sponsorships, and elsewhere.
Some of our favorite episodes include an interview with Entrepreneur Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Jason Feifer, an episode with Tori Dunlap that focused on the wonders of TikTok, words with indelible writer Austin Kleon, and his recent chat with Dallas-based content creator Sara Dietschy. His interview with Sahil Bloom gleaned insight into building a solid Twitter following, and we may have picked a few tips from their brains on that one as well.
6. Being Boss
Being Boss offers a podcast library of hundreds of episodes hosted by Emily Thomspson. The shows delve into topics such as mindset, work-life balance, business ideas, and more. The podcast aims to educate its listeners with discussions on navigating through their careers, with talking points relating to finding your vision, growing your business, and changing paths.
Started back in 2015 with her ‘business-bestie’ Kathleen Shannon, the podcast has featured engaging conversations with experts in their fields such as Brené Brown, Jasmine Star, and Lisa Congdon. As we all continue to grow and excel throughout our work lives, it’s helpful to hear from others who may have been in similar situations to us and to be enlightened by the stories that they share.
7. Find Your Dream Job
Find Your Dream Job podcast started in 2015 sharing insider stories and job seeking tips to people searching to land a purposeful job. From bad work experiences to telling your story in a job interview, clarifying career goals and making a big leap into a new industry, the 15-30 minute episodes feature nationally recognized experts.
This weekly podcast is hosted by Mac Prichard, founder and publisher of Mac’s List, a job board website.
